This game was originally commissioned for the bundle-zine Indiepocalypse #35, that you should definitely check out!

The State sent you to work on The Tunnel, but it's not what you expected. The Machine is not drilling. It's doing something else... something weird. And what do the people living there want with it?

"The Tunnel" is a top-down adventure game, rendered in 16-color pixel art, inspired by the fiction of Franz Kafka and the SNES/Super Famicom game Ihatovo Monogatari.


INSTRUCTIONS

Use the arrow keys to move around, 'Z' to interact and go to the next text bit, and the Number Keys to select dialogue options. Mouse-clicking also works for selecting dialogue options and going to the next text bit. Press F11 to leave full-screen.

The game can't be saved (maybe in a future update!). It's quite short, though :)

Nice experience! Short as it was, it still managed to keep me curious and build the characters, nice job!

One small 'inconsistency': Just after stopping the machine, I think, you knock on the door of Kleinhart (right?) and the text says "no response", but Kleinhart still walks out of the door to face you.

That was a very surreal and enjoyable experience.

I played just a few minutes of it; I found it hard to interact with the green person at the typewriter, I kept trying from below or above, but I had to be to the side, on just the right pixel... might be good to make that interaction easier.  I didn't get very far into the story, but it was certainly doing some world-building :)
